Checking in with our favorite people living their best Gaucho - Buenos Aires life. This week: @andy_dominguezv
If you think of success not as a destination, but a journey, then Andy Dominguez is having quite the ride. The flyweight boxer turned pro just last summer – and despite this nerve-jangling debut taking place in a COVID-emptied arena, the 23-year-old’s supremely confident disposition pegged him as a star in the making.
ANDY DOMINGUEZ APPEARS IN VOGUE KOREA’S JUNE ISSUE, FEATURING SOO JOO PARK.
PHOTOGRAPHER: DAVID ALEXANDER FLINN; STYLIST: DANIEL GAINES; PRODUCTION & CREATIVE DIRECTION: SOO JOO PARK.
ALSO FEATURING FELLOW BOXERS OKSANA ORLOVA, RO MALABANAN, AND UGO PETER-OBIAGWU.
Born in Mexico, he grew up in the Bronx, where he got into fights in and out of school. "Other kids would pick on me for being small and I would have no choice but to defend myself," he says. His mom, fed up with being called into school to collect him, duly took him to a boxing gym near home – "and that’s where it all started," he says. Inspired by the likes of Oscar de la Hoya, whom Andy met as a 17-year-old, he rose quickly to amateur stardom, winning the New York Golden Gloves tournament a casual three times, and fighting both in Madison Square Garden and on international TV. "I never thought I would’ve made it this far," he says. "Boxing saved me."

Since then, Gaucho - Buenos Aires is helping keep Andy’s pro dreams alive. Following a chance meeting at the storied Mendez Gym in New York, GBA founder Scott Mathis saw so much potential in Andy, he secured him as a brand ambassador and offered to sponsor him outright. So, as well as seeing Andy wearing GBA in his downtime (he’s a fan of "all the sweatsuits" and loves our perfect-every-time fit), you’ll also spot him in the ring sporting a custom kit that only a boxer can carry off with swagger.

Asked what motivates him the most – fame? Money? Power? – he replies that his biggest wish is to become a world champion, "so that I can give back to those that have helped me, and have a platform to help and inspire other people."
Nothing sums up the gaucho ethos more than this brand of humble, quiet power; it’s what truly fuels success, and Andy has gallons ready to burn.
Andy's top picks
#1
"I love my black Gorriti pullover hoodie. Great for a Sunday around the city or my out-of-town commute, I can wear it anywhere. But I also want the Alsina zip hoodie in cream, it's perfect to wear under a leather bomber jacket."
#2
"The jogger’s texture and material are really unique, and the smooth, off-white color is just cool. Hands-down would wear the top/bottom combo every day if I could.”
#3
"The Icon Scarf keeps the sun off my head when I'm outdoors training, and it keeps my neck warm on cooler days. Good for every season, really."
"My Gaucho Power tee is a staple - I wear all the time.”
#4
#5
"My horseshoe cap keeps me feeling lucky - I can wear to the gym, but it's also cool enough to wear to the club if I'm feeling it."
